Our history

The history of Altac Coating Group dates back to 1978, when the Alkema and Tacoma families jointly founded the general partnership Handelsonderneming Altac.

Two Fiat vans served garages and body shops in Friesland from Drachten and Easterein.

The service area quickly expanded to Groningen and North Holland, after which the vans were replaced by trucks serving as mobile warehouses. Our company has grown steadily since then, and the

service area also increased. Relocations and expansions with various operating companies followed. Since 2010, Altac has been led by the second generation, and the partnership has adopted a holding structure.

But despite all developments and expansions, the culture within the Altac family business remains the same: thinking along with the customer, providing personal service, and staying well up to date.

1978

Founding of Handelsonderneming Altac

In 1978, the general partnership Handelsonderneming Altac was founded by the Alkema and Tacoma families.

1995

Established at current location in Drachten

Due to Altac’s growth, both in product range and personnel, the company has undergone several major relocations. Since 1995, Altac has been located in its current premises in Drachten.

1996

Contract for supply to body shop chain Care Schadeservice

Thanks to Altac’s unique concept with mobile warehouses and the fact that this was well-received by several customers belonging to the Care Schadeservice chain, Altac was appointed by Care in 1996 to supply all branches in the Netherlands with non-paint items.

2010

The next generation

In 2010, the second generation took over the leadership from the founders. At the same time, the general partnership was converted into a holding structure, with Altac Holding as the parent company and Handelsonderneming Altac BV as the subsidiary.

2012

Acquisition of Lascare (now Equipment Group Holland)

In 2012, Equipment Group Holland, then called Lascare, was acquired and added to Altac Holding. EGH is a total supplier of all equipment found in the workshop.

2013

Acquisition of Kerssens

In 2013, Kerssens, a paint wholesaler for the automotive industry, was acquired and added to Altac Holding.

2014

Acquisition of Heeren & Meijer

In 2014, Heeren & Meijer, a paint wholesaler for Yacht and Industry, was acquired and added to Altac Holding.

2015

Acquisition of Klaver (now YEC)

In 2015, YEC Yachtpaint Equipment & Consultancy, a national paint wholesaler for yachting, was acquired and added to Altac Holding.

2017

Acquisition of Blok Filters

In 2017, Blok Filters, a supplier of filters for spray booths and other applications, was acquired and added to Altac Holding.

2018

Formation of Altac Coating Group

Altac Coating Group is the new name for the group (merger of Coating Group Holland, Handelsonderneming Altac BV, and Aspect Yacht Paints). Altac Coating Group falls under Altac Holding.

2019

Acquisition of All-Paints

In 2019, All-Paints, a supplier of coatings for the industrial sector, was acquired and added to Altac Holding.

2019

Acquisition of CL Coatings

In 2019, CL Coatings, a total supplier of various coatings, was acquired and added to Altac Holding.

2020

Acquisition of Color Up

In 2020, Color Up, a total supplier of paint and non-paint products, was acquired and added to Altac Holding.

2021

Acquisition of Strong Tools & Equipment

Equipment Group Holland acquired the business activities of Strong Tools and Equipment as of October 1, 2021. Both parties entered into consultations regarding the acquisition because owner and founder Philip Strong was seeking a successor for his company after 38 years of running it with pleasure and dedication.

2021

CL Coatings becomes ACG Werkendam

In 2021, CL Coatings was incorporated into Altac Coating Group and operates from the Werkendam branch.

2022

Relocation from Werkendam to Tiel

Altac Coating Group Werkendam moved to a new location in Tiel. An Altac Coating Group Training Center is also located in Tiel, just like in Drachten and Rijssen. The Training Center in Tiel is equipped with a spray booth and both large and small conference rooms.

2022

International acquisition of Profi-Paint

An agreement was reached for the acquisition of the fine company Profi-Paint BV in Lommel, Belgium, which was finalized as of August 4, 2022.

2024

Acquisition of Lely Coatings

Lely Coatings is a specialist in high-quality coatings and surface treatments and a leading player in the coatings industry.
